Meditation (Muraqaba)

The most important component of the inner work of students of our Order (specifically, the Naqshbandi-Mujaddadi Order) is meditation or muraqaba: the practice of sitting attentively and paying attention toward the Almighty and thereby awaiting the bounties and blessings from God.

Remembering God (Dhikr)

Dhikrullah (remembrance of Allah)  is of many types and forms including Quranic recitation, prayer (salat), supplication (dua), studying islamic knowledge, meditation (muraqaba), sending salutations (durud sharif) on the Prophet (peace be upon him) etc

The importance, loftiness and benefits of Dhikr are emphatically stressed repeatedly in both the Majestic Quran and hadith sharif.

Allah (exalted is He) stresses that we should remember Him often and in all circumstances:

“O you who believe! Remember Allah with much remembrance; and glorify Him morning and evening.” [Quran 33: 35, 41-42]

Good Character – vital for attaining God’s and His Apostle’s good pleasure and love.

The importance of good character can be gauged by the following profound hadith where Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.s) said:

“I was only sent to perfect noble character,” [Ahmad]

God confirms the tremendous nature of the Prophet’s (s.a.w.s) character and the importance of emulating him:-

“And you (stand) on an exalted standard of character”. [Quran 68:4]

“Ye have indeed in the Messenger of God a beautiful pattern (of conduct) for any one whose hope is in God and the Final Day, and who engages much in the praise of God”. [Quran 33:21]

INTRODUCTION

Ours is the age of science and technology. The discoveries and inventions of science have placed the material means and resources under the control of man and have thus increased his capacity to understand the universe and conquer nature. Because of these powers, man has already reached the moon and now aspires to travel to Mars and beyond. Instead of being grateful and humble for the gift of capabilities and talent, he tries to exploit these natural resources for his own ends. In spite of these advances, however, it is ironic that human life as a whole is still devoid of peace and tranquillity.

Hazrat Azad Rasool (r.a.)

Hazrat Azad Rasool was born and raised in India. He received his B.A. from Jamia Millia Islamia (the National Muslim University of India), his B.Ed., from Alahabad University, and his M.A. in philosophy and psychology form Aligarh Muslim University. His career included thirty years’ service to Jamia Millia Islamia, where he worked as a teacher and later as principal.

Blessings and Salutations on the Prophet (peace be upon him) – Durud Sharif

The importance of sending blessings & salutations on the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) can be gauged by the Divine command:

“Verily God and His angels send blessings on the Prophet: O ye who believe! Send ye blessings on him, and salute him with all respect” [Holy Qur’an 33:56]
